Odda is a municipality and a town in Hordaland. It is bordered to the north towards Jondal and Ullensvang, to the east by Vinje, in the south against Suldalslågen and Sauda, and west to Etne and Kvinnherad. Management Area and the center of Odda municipality is the town of Odda, who sits in Sørfjorden in Hardanger.
In 1913, Odda municipality of its own, separated from Ullensvang. In 1964, merged with Odda Røldal municipality. Towns in Odda municipality among others Odda Tyssedal Røldal and Skare. Odda is known as an industrial community, with companies such as Odda Smelting, Norzink and Tinfos Titan & Iron (TTI). In spring 2003, Odda Smelting bankruptcy, and the municipality is in a transition period to create new employment. At Odda Odda Smelting process was developed. Odda is also known as an important place for tourism, with waterfalls Låtefossen and lots of nature. Hardangervidda and Folgefonna's natural areas which is not far from the center of Odda. Commune millennium is Tyssedal power plant, which was also the century building in Hordaland and Sogn and Fjordane. The station was built between 1906 and 1918, and is today preserved. |
