Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and, with its 430 000 inhabitants also the largest city. The city is located at the west of the country, right on the border of Austria and Hungary. The city is divided in two by the Danube.
Bratislava is Slovakia's political, cultural and economic center. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament and the government. The city is also home to several universities, museums, theaters, galleries and other important economic, cultural and educational institutions. Headquarters for many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions are also in Bratislava.

Presidential Palace in Bratislava is among the city's major attractions. But the most dominant building is without doubt Hrad Bratislava - Bratislava Castle - located on a hill overlooking the city. Bratislava has a picturesque old town with many cultural institutions. It is characterized by a variety of peoples, Hungarians, Germans (Austrians) and Slovaks, in addition to its many gypsies.
