Northampton is a large market town and local government district in England. It is the administrative center of Northamptonshire. Northampton is the highest populated district in England that is not a unitary authority.

Traditionally Northampton has been a center for the manufacture of shoes and other leather goods. There is little left of this, apart from the buildings that can be seen along the streets, small shoe factories with workers' cottages next door. It is now deploying and finance that are important industries. Among the companies that have large facilities in the city are the Barclaycard, Panasonic, Travis Perkins, Coca Cola, Schweppes Beverages Ltd and Carlsberg.

Northampton's oldest building is the church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is also one of the largest and best-preserved round churches in England. It was built in 1100 by Simon de Senlis, 1 Earl of Northampton, who had just returned from the first Crusade. The church is based on Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

Eleanorkorset is one of only three such crosses are preserved. There were originally twelve of them, erected at the places where Queen Eleanor's funeral stopped for the night during the journey from Harby to London.
