Oranjestad is the capital and largest city in Aruba associated Netherlands. Oranjestad is located on the southern coast near the western end of the island country. In the local language, Papiamento, Oranjestad is often referred to as "Playa".

Small parts of the city is formed by a series of man-made expansions of land into the sea. Today Renaissance Marketplace (formerly Seaport Marketplace) and adjacent Queen Wilhelmina Park, situated within a part of this expansion.

The town was built around Fort Zoutman in 1796. Initially it was known as the Bay of Horses. The city has since been the capital of the island.

There are some Dutch colonial architecture. Due to increased public interest in maintaining the island's cultural heritage, a number of old buildings and houses in the city center has been transformed into colorfully restored landmarks, such as lime-colored Civil Registry on Wilhelminastraat.

Oranjestad consists of hundreds of local shops where tourists usually buy their keepsakes. The city has many government buildings. Most tourists walking around, shopping and look at all the cruise ships.

Fort Zoutman / Historical Museum, is Aruba's oldest building. The Natural Bridge site-bridge is also a major tourist attraction for the island.
